We are seeking a talented Data Engineer to harness the full potential of our extensive data ecosystem. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining scalable data pipelines using cutting-edge technologies like BigQuery and DBT. Your work will ensure seamless data accessibility, integrity, and transformation, enabling teams to make data-driven decisions with confidence.

You will play a key role in developing dynamic dashboards that translate complex datasets into actionable insights across various business domains, including marketing, customer analytics, and warehouse and logistics operations. Additionally, you will contribute to our custom-built attribution system, mapping out how we attract and retain customers, the associated costs, and which content performs best on platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok.

With access to data from millions of people and pets, we leverage AI and technology to deliver hyper-personalized nutrition through our proprietary recommendation system. Our mission is to become the leading direct-to-consumer pet food brand in Europe and the next unicorn in our industry.

Your responsibilities

Data Pipeline Development

• Design, build, and maintain scalable and reliable data pipelines using BigQuery and DBT.
• Ensure efficient ETL/ELT processes to extract, transform, and load data from various sources.
• Optimize data workflows for performance, cost-efficiency, and scalability.

Data Integration & Management

• Integrate data from multiple sources, including Meta, Google Ads, Google BigQuery, and Google Sheets.
• Ensure data consistency, quality, and integrity across all business domains.
• Manage and optimize data storage, partitioning, and indexing strategies in BigQuery.

Collaboration & Cross-Team Support

• Work closely with our data team and business stakeholders to understand data needs.
• Provide technical support to marketing, tech and warehouse & logistics teams for data-driven decision-making.
• Align with the data governance team to ensure compliance with best practices and regulations.

Data Transformation & Modeling

• Design and implement data models to support business intelligence and reporting needs.
• Develop and maintain dbt models for transforming raw data into structured and usable datasets.
• Continuously improve data models for better query performance and usability.

Dashboard & Reporting Enablement

• Enable business teams by structuring data for visualization in dashboards and reports.
• Ensure seamless data availability for tools like Google Looker Studio or other BI platforms.
• Support stakeholders with ad-hoc queries and data-driven insights.

Performance Optimization & Automation

• Monitor and enhance data pipeline performance to ensure low-latency access to key datasets.
• Automate repetitive tasks and processes to improve efficiency and reduce manual intervention.
• Continuously explore ways to improve cost efficiency in BigQuery processing.

Security, Compliance & Documentation

• Implement data security measures and access controls to protect sensitive data.
• Ensure compliance with GDPR and other relevant data protection regulations.
• Maintain clear and comprehensive technical documentation for data pipelines and transformations.

required experience & competences

• Proficiency in SQL & BigQuery – Strong experience in writing efficient SQL queries and managing large datasets in Google BigQuery.
• Experience with DBT (Data Build Tool) – Hands-on experience in transforming data using dbt, building robust data models, and managing version control for data transformations.
• Data Pipeline Development – Experience in designing, building, and maintaining ETL/ELT pipelines for data ingestion, transformation, and storage.
• Cloud & Google Technologies – Familiarity with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) services such as Cloud Storage, Cloud Functions, and Pub/Sub is a plus.
• Data Modeling – Ability to design efficient and scalable data models to support business intelligence and analytics needs.
• Scripting & Automation – Experience with Python or other scripting languages to automate data processes is a plus.
• Data Quality & Governance – Understanding of best practices for data validation, quality control, and governance.
• Dashboard & BI Enablement – Ability to structure data for visualization in Google Looker Studio or other BI tools.

• Strong Communication Skills – Ability to clearly explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and document processes effectively.

Education & Experience

• Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
• 2+ years of experience in a Data Engineer role, preferably in an e-commerce or high-traffic data environment.

Experience working with marketing data, e-commerce transactions, and logistics data is a plus.
